Middle East · JOD (Jordanian Dinar)
Wirtschafts- und Branchenüberblick
Jordan is a small open economy in the Middle East with a nominal GDP of approximately $54 billion in 2025, driven primarily by the services sector (60.7% of GDP) alongside mining of phosphates and potash, tourism, and remittances from Jordanians working abroad. The economy grew at a real rate of 3.1% in 2025 despite headwinds from regional conflict, supported by manufacturing, agriculture, and mining growth. The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) posted exceptional performance in 2025, with the general index rising approximately 45%, ranking first among Arab markets and 13th globally by Bloomberg. The banking sector dominates listed equities, with Jordan Phosphate Mines and Arab Potash providing significant commodity exposure through the exchange. Jordan maintains a relatively open capital market with no cap on foreign ownership of listed equities, and the Jordanian Dinar is pegged to the US dollar at approximately 1 JOD = 1.41 USD.

Foreign investors can trade ASE-listed securities through Jordan Securities Commission (JSC)-licensed brokerage firms. Several banks including Arab Bank and Housing Bank have affiliated brokerage arms. International investors typically access the ASE through correspondent arrangements with licensed local brokers or through global custodian networks. The ASE launched internet trading in 2010, enabling remote order placement. Settlement follows a T+2 cycle. No foreign ownership cap applies to most listed equities, though individual company bylaws may set sector-specific limits. The JOD is freely convertible and pegged to the USD (1 JOD ≈ 1.41 USD), facilitating straightforward capital movement.

Umzug & Aufenthalt
Investment-Visa / Residenzprogramm
Förderprogramme Residency (5-year renewable); separate CIP grants citizenship
Jordan offers two investment-migration pathways administered by the Jordan Investment Commission. The Golden Residence Visa grants a five-year renewable residence permit to investors who purchase real estate valued at a minimum of JOD 200,000 (approximately $282,000). Separately, Jordan's Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP), which was overhauled in 2025, offers a pathway to naturalization through multiple investment routes starting at $750,000, with an annual government cap of 500 approvals. The 2025 reforms restructured the CIP from three categories into eight pathways emphasizing active business investment and job creation over passive instruments such as bank deposits.

Zugang für ausländische Investoren
Jordan permits foreign nationals to own real estate and listed securities without an ownership cap; non-Jordanian investors held approximately 48% of total ASE market value as of early 2025. Foreign investors can open accounts with Jordan Securities Commission-licensed brokers. Full repatriation of capital and profits is permitted under the Investment Law. Corporate ownership restrictions exist in certain regulated sectors (banking, media, telecommunications) where specific licensing rules apply. The JOD is pegged to the USD at a fixed rate, eliminating currency conversion risk for dollar-based investors.
